A colourful and abstract digital illustration of the Grand Isla Navidad Resort harbour. Created in 2020
Whilst it is formally known now as the Grand Isla Navidad Resort, this hotel is referred locally as Grand Bay. It is located near the small Mexican coastal towns of Barra de Navidad, Melaque, and Colimilla, and has 158 rooms, swimming pools, its own private beach, a harbour, and a 27-hole golf course. It also puts on the most spectacular fireworks display every New Year which you can view from the comfort of the beach across the bay!
Whilst I have never stayed in the hotel, nor do I know anyone who has, it is something of a landmark in this area and can be appreciated by everyone for its attractive colonial-style architecture. The only times I have actually been close to the hotel are either when I have been driving over to have some delicious seafood at one of the restaurants in the small town of Colimilla, next door to the hotel, or when I’ve been on a boat either going out to sea or just for a hop around the lagoon and sea canals in Barra. This picture is based on a photo I took in January 2020 when some friends came to visit and we took one of those boat tours around the lagoon. Some of the boats and yachts in the harbour are pretty spectacular and I hoped to catch the enormity of just one of them through this picture, as well as the lushness and detail that encapulates the hotel.
